Toplou Monastery

Close to Vai and approximately 50 minutes from Kato Zakros, you’ll find the noteworthy Toplou Monastery, a destination of great historical significance and architectural beauty. The Monastery of “Panagia Akrotiriani” is mentioned in documents dating back to the 15th century, but its construction likely predates that period. Within the monastery, you’ll discover two museums—an ecclesiastical and a historical one—housing a plethora of rare religious and historical artifacts, including book editions, carvings, and the Souidas Dictionary, among others.
